Local food bank releases plan for immediate future during pandemic

MASON CITY – The Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank released a plan for the immediate future during the current coronavirus pandemic:

The Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank will be open March 23, 24, and 25 from noon to 4:00 to distribute monthly food boxes to those who have not received food in March. There will be no 3:00 to 4:00 extra for bread, sweets, and produce as we are do not have any extra at this time. Please have some form of ID or yellow card to receive your food box. Please remain in your vehicle until instructed otherwise.

Donations: At this time we are not accepting walk in donations except from organizations and local stores. Please hang on to your donations and hopefully soon we will be able to accept and process them. Currently we are running out of many of the items we have been putting in the food boxes so money donations would be of the greatest use to us at this time. Our mailing address is Box 1565, Mason City, 50402.

Future Plans: After March 25th the food bank will close for the rest of March to work on hopefully locating and purchasing the food items we are out of so that we may again prepare food boxes. We also need time to find and coordinate volunteers willing to both pack boxes and distribute boxes. The plan to receive an April food box will be announced as soon as we determine how it will be handled.
Our goal at the food bank is to serve our community as well as keeping all our volunteers safe and healthy. Please be patient with us as this process moves forward.
