MASON CITY – A wanted Mason City man has been arrested after firing a long gun at a car during an altercation.
On Sunday, July 24, 2022, at about 8:47 p.m., Mason City Police Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 19th Street SE and South Massachusetts Avenue. Upon arriving in the area, officers were able to identify the involved parties and vehicles. The parties were known to one another prior to the shooting.
Officers found two vehicles that had been involved in an altercation that had occurred while they were driving on city streets for several minutes prior to the shooting. Both vehicles were damaged in the incident, one from receiving gunfire and the other as shots were fired from it. An investigation was completed at the scene and a long gun was seized from one of the vehicles.
Officers served a subsequent search warrant at a residence after all of the parties to the shooting were identified and located.
A handgun was recovered as part of that investigation. The investigation is continuing into events prior to the shooting and the shooting itself.
At this time, Dave Obregon, age 39, of Mason City, has been charged with the following:
– Class C Felony – Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon
– Failure to Appear Warrant out of Cerro Gordo County
He remains in the Cerro Gordo County Jail, pending a future court appearance.
