MASON CITY — A two-vehicle crash near Mason City left one driver with a minor injury and caused disabling damage to both vehicles, according to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched at about 3:18 p.m. on May 22, 2026, to the intersection of 255th Street and Lark Avenue for a reported two-vehicle crash with possible injury.

According to the sheriff’s office, 70-year-old Becky Kay Carstens of Rockwell was driving a gray 2021 Nissan Rogue southbound on Lark Avenue at 255th Street. After stopping at the stop sign, Carstens allegedly pulled into the intersection and struck a white 2016 Ford Fusion SE driven by 20-year-old Kylie Renae Stillman of Ackley.

Authorities said the two vehicles collided in the intersection, causing disabling damage to both vehicles.

Stillman was treated at the scene by Mason City and Clear Lake fire medics for a very minor airbag injury, according to the sheriff’s office.

The crash remains under investigation by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office.

Assisting agencies included Mason City Fire Medics, the Clear Lake Fire Department, Clear Lake Fire Medics and the Iowa State Patrol.
