Northern Iowa couple pledge major gift to UNI-Dome renovation project

CEDAR FALLS – A leadership gift from a north central Iowa couple will support the most comprehensive renovations in the history of the UNI-Dome.

Doug and Rosie Lindaman, both 1972 graduates of the University of Northern Iowa, have pledged a major investment to help transform a “vitally important” facility to the Cedar Valley.

“For the state, it is the iconic landmark that gives identity to UNI,” said Doug. “The UNI-Dome has served us well for nearly 50 years, but times change, and the public deserves to have these planned improvements.”

Rosie said the project will elevate the university’s athletics programs and strengthen the UNI-Dome’s legacy for the next 50 years.

“Legacy means leaving something in a better place than how you found it,” Rosie said. “We have the opportunity to do so through this project and are proud to be part of it. The next generation will benefit from an enhanced experience as a result of these upgrades.”

Civic engagement and philanthropy have long defined the Lindamans’ lives. The couple is active in many causes in and around their home in Ackley, Iowa, and have staunchly supported their alma mater by giving of their time, talent and treasure. Their philanthropic service at UNI spans scholarships, athletics and the arts through the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.

Doug and Rosie received UNI’s Distinguished Award for Alumni Service in 2019.

“Doug and Rosie Lindaman represent the very best of the University of Northern Iowa,” said UNI Athletics Director David Harris. “In my time as a UNI Panther, I can’t think of another couple that has been more gracious and supportive than Doug and Rosie. This gift is another example of what makes them so special. We are very appreciative of their belief in the vision for the Dome and their willingness to make this investment.”

Rosie completed three degrees at UNI, earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and masters degrees in special education and school counseling. She spent her career as a public school educator and counselor in Ackley-area school districts.

Doug graduated with a bachelor of arts in social science before embarking on a 30-year career in agricultural business.

The UNI-Dome project is a part of UNI’s Our Tomorrow campaign.

“Our Tomorrow is about the future,” Doug said. “Through this campaign, we have the opportunity to reinforce the foundation of UNI for generations to come. With improvements in facilities, programs and scholarships, UNI will be set up to make an even larger impact for Iowa’s future, adding to its proud history in the state.”

Donations to the UNI-Dome project are tax-deductible through the UNI Foundation and can be made as a multi-year pledge.
