Timothy “Tim” Carlson, 72, of Mason City, IA, passed away peacefully September 28, 2023 in hospice at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center after a year and nine months battling two cancers.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Tim was born June 7, 1951 in Bloomington, MN, son of Lowell and Dolores Carlson. Tim graduated from Bloomington Kennedy High School with the class of 1969. He then went on to graduate from Brown Institution with a degree in Broadcasting. Tim enjoyed several years in radio broadcasting, followed by a successful career in sales, home improvement, and supervising new home construction before retiring.
Tim was passionate about many things and had a multitude of hobbies, talents and skills. Having played in a local rock band that enjoyed a popular following in the Twin Cities area after high school, Tim was an excellent guitarist; both electric and acoustic. He loved music and enjoyed playing his guitars all of his life. He also stayed active in many sports. He loved to play golf, hockey, softball and basketball. He was also an excellent artist and enjoyed water color and fine pens the most. He produced beautiful pictures of cars and planes that he admired and portraits of the family pets. He enjoyed assembling model cars and World War II aircrafts and has left behind a fleet of detailed models for all to enjoy. His biggest passion was fishing. Tim had the ability to “hunt” fish by factoring in the season, current temperature, wind, sun, time of day, water depth, and flora and fauna in the water. He caught everything from bluegills, crappies, small perch to trout, bass and walleye. He seldom came home without fish unless he decided it was a catch and release day. He had consummate fish fileting skills. He would quickly filet his catch of the day and bag some to be frozen and pop some on the skillet or on the grill to provide a delicious meal. Even now the freezer is full of fish for his wife to enjoy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janis Sevick; brothers, Dave (Marilyn) Carlson, Steve (Linda Roth) Carlson, Mark Carlson, and John Carlson; sisters, Lynn (Mike) Marholz and Marcia Mundhenk; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and beloved pets.
Preceding him in death are his parents, grandparents, and brother-in-law, Tom Mundhenk.
