Michael “Mike” E. Moorehead, 92, of Mason City, IA, passed away, Sunday, October 1, 2023. He served in active combat in WWII as a communications officer in Germany.

Michael “Mike” E. Moorehead, 92, of Mason City, IA, passed away, Sunday, October 1, 2023.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, IA 50401.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Mike was born June 14, 1931 to Gordon and Loretta (Kietly) Moorehead in Cartersville, Iowa, the brother of 8 siblings. In his youth, he attended Rockwell schools and worked at the Cartersville Elevator. At the age of 18, Mike enlisted into the United States Army and was stationed in El Paso, Texas. He served in active combat in WWII as a communications officer in Germany.

Mike returned to North Iowa where he met and married the love of his life, Delores Mae Ogaard on December 28, 1955. Together they raised three children: Trudy, Rick, and James. He was part owner of the Conoco Station on S. Federal, Mason City for several years.

Mike took classes through ABC while working at the Conoco Station. He obtained his electrical journeyman’s license while employed at Blazek Electric. Mike was well known throughout Mason City for his expertise in the electrical field and was requested by customers on many occasions. He worked many long, hard hours making sure the job was done right and on time. After retirement he continued working part time for Blazek Electric until age 75.

Mike enjoyed fishing in Canada, camping with family, gardening, playing cards and Iowa Hawkeye Basketball. He took his boys on many fishing trips and enjoyed hunting with them on his brother’s farm. Mike especially enjoyed visiting with family. He was a good neighbor and friend, always willing to lend a helping hand.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rick (Cheryl) Moorehead of Ventura, IA and James Moorehead of Mason City, IA; grandchildren, Chad Rozen, Amy (Dale) Reynolds, Sara Rozen, Melissa (Jameson) Deckard, Matthew (Brittany) Moorehead, Ben (Rachel) Moorehead and Sam (Lan) Moorehead; great-grandchildren, Taylor Rozen, Logan and Kenadi Reynolds, Hunter and Charlotte Deckard and Sage Moorehead; brother, Donny; sisters, Doris, Connie, and Linda; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Ogaard, RoseLyn Ogaard and Jeane Moorehead.
Those welcoming him to Heaven are his wife of 64 years, Delores who passed away on July 25, 2019; his parents; daughter, Trudy Rozen; siblings Bob, Richard, Mary, and Marge; and great-granddaughter Madison Rozen.
