OBIT: Roger W. Giddings

Roger W. Giddings, 75, died Monday, June 26, 2023, at Kossuth Regional Health Center. He joined the Navy and was assigned to the USS Princeton during the Vietnam War.

Roger W. Giddings, 75, died Monday, June 26, 2023, at Kossuth Regional Health Center. Visitation at Oakcrest Funeral Home in Titonka will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2023. A memorial service for the family will follow the visitation with burial at Bingham Township Cemetery (Woden).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Burt Library in Roger’s name.

Roger Wayne Giddings was born July 8, 1947. He was born and raised in Burt, the son of William and Nettie (Grover) Giddings. On June 12, 1971, he was united in marriage to Karen Ricklefs. Together they were blessed with two children.

After high school he worked with his brothers on the west coast doing a variety of jobs. He joined the Navy and was assigned to the USS Princeton during the Vietnam War.  He was honorably discharged in 1968. After he returned home, he moved to Dallas, Texas until coming back to Burt in 1970. After getting married, he worked at IMT in Garner and as a lineman in Forest City. Eventually Roger and his wife Karen settled on a family farm outside of Woden. In addition to farming, Roger also worked at the Buffalo Center and Woden Elevators until he retired after his wife Karen passed away.

Roger enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He had many hobbies such as playing cribbage, fishing, quilting, and puzzling at the local library. Roger also faithfully participated in a multitude of church activities and spent many hours in prayer and fellowship.

He is survived by his children, Annette Giddings, Daniel (Molly) Giddings; grandchildren, Aidan, Ariana, Nora; siblings, Grover (Carol) Giddings, Craig (Kathy) Giddings, Gail Giddings, Neal Giddings; brothers-in-law, Merle (Betty) Ricklefs, Mark (Georgia) Ricklefs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife of 37 years, Karen; brothers, Gary and Gordon Giddings; and brother-in-law, Keith Ricklefs.
