PARAMUS, N.J. – Iowa State sophomore Luke Gutschewski finished the two rounds of stroke play in a four-way tie for first place at the 122nd U.S. Amateur. Gutschewski played the second round on Tuesday at Arcola Country Club, while playing the opening round at the Ridgewood Country Club on Monday.

By finishing stroke play in the top 64, Gutschewski advances to the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur. Gutschewski’s opponent is yet to be determined for the round of 64 in match play, as 15 players will play in a playoff for the final 11 spots in match play. The playoff will start at 6:30 a.m. (CT). Gutschewski will have the final tee time of match play, scheduled for 1:10 p.m. (CT) Wednesday at Ridgewood Country Club. The opening round of match play will air on Peacock from 2-3 p.m. (CT) and Golf Channel from 3-5 p.m. (CT).

Gutschewski shot a 70 on Tuesday, bringing his two-day stroke play total to 138. Gutschewski started the second round on the back nine and was one-under par at the turn. He had birdies on the 12th and 16th holes. On the front nine, he was one-under-par with a birdie on the second hole.

“It feels good,” said Gutschewski. “Obviously you can’t win if you don’t make match play, right? It’s just another step along the way.”

The top 64 players in the field of 312 have advanced to match play. With a victory on Wednesday, Gutschewski would advance to the round of 32, scheduled for Thursday. The quarterfinals will be Aug. 19, with the semifinals on Aug. 20. The championship match, over 36 holes, will be on Aug. 21.

Gutschewski becomes the first player under Iowa State Head Coach Andrew Tank to advance to the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur. Gutschewski is the ninth different Cyclone to play in the U.S. Amateur under Tank.
