MASON CITY – Chris Watts, current Cerro Gordo County Supervisor, submitted his signatures early Monday morning for his re-election campaign.
He was the first official candidate to submit the required paper work. Watts announced he would seek re-election back on March 1.
Watts says he lobbied his 2 colleagues for 2 years before switching from County Social Services (CSS) over to Central Iowa Community Services (CICS). While expanding services for the county, he says the change that was eventually approved saved the taxpayers over one million dollars while lowering the taxpayer levy 5 years in a row. He also mentioned the re-organization of a loan on the county law enforcement complex, saving taxpayers $231,000.
Another large success, Mr. Watts says, was the elimination of the taxpayer paid retirement system, saving over 4 million dollars.
Among Watt’s proudest achievements on the board, he says, was leading the way on freezing Supervisor pay increases, a promised to the taxpayers he made years ago.
“Promises made-promises kept,” he told NIT.
Watts says he is a strong proponent for fixing the infrastructure in the county.
Primary elections are June 7, 2022.
