WEBSTER CITY – A Northern Iowa man is dead after riding in a pickup truck that went through a stop sign and into a ditch.

On September 2, 2023, at 3:03 AM, Hamilton County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an accident with injuries. The caller reported they failed to stop at an intersection and the vehicle entered the ditch. The reporting party was also the driver of the vehicle. A 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pick up was northbound on North Des Moines Street and failed to stop for a stop sign at 210th Street. The pickup entered the north ditch and came to rest in a residential yard.

The driver of the vehicle, 39-year-old Dustin Humlicek and the passenger 48-year-old Kevin Beightol, both from Webster City, were transported to Van Diest Medical Center by ambulance for their injuries. Both individuals then were transported by medical helicopters to Des Moines hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Beightol died later that day from his injuries.

This accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Assisting the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was the Webster City Police Department, Webster City Fire Department, Van Diest Medical Center Ambulance, Iowa state Patrol and the Polk County Medical Examiner.
