Nathan “Nate” Allen Williams, 65, of Portland, IA, passed away September 1, 2023 peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with leukemia.

He was born July 1, 1958, in Holyoke, MA; son of Jerome Vincent and Martha Jane (Raftery) Williams. With his father in the United States Air Force, the family traveled all over the country while he was growing up. Nate attended High School in Columbus, OH. He worked a number of jobs over the years, most recently was a diesel mechanic.

Nate met Julie Lockwood on July 3, 1999. It was love at first sight. They were together from that day forward and after 16 years and a romantic proposal they were married October 3, 2015 in the backyard of their Portland home.

Nate loved riding his Harley. He was a wild man and lived life to the fullest. He loved watching football and rooting for Nebraska and Ohio State. In the past few years, he even enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings. He also loved playing various games from cards to pool and enjoyed sneakily winning especially at Cards Against Humanity. Nate passed both of these passions and skills onto his two sons. Good luck playing (and winning) any game with any of those three at the table.

Nate deeply loved his amazing family especially being a grandpa, father, uncle and husband but he also adored his little dogs and birds. Begrudgingly, he also enjoyed spending time with the cat, Axel and he had a rather interesting way of calling him to dinner.

Nate is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Joseph Christopher (Erika) Williams and Zachary Michael Williams and his mother Christine; grandchildren, Elijah and Jadon Tipton; siblings, Sharon (Joseph) Kubr, Linda (Mike) Young, Rachel (Robert) Kentner, Mary (Robert) Crabtree, Debra Hay, Robert (Aimee) Williams; mother, Martha; beloved dog, Chewbacca; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

Nate was preceded in death by his father, Jerome and his brother, John.

As per his wishes, there will be a private family service at a later date.

Please send memorials to Julie Williams ℅ Lee Lockwood (Julie’s father), 812 NW Boulder Brook Drive, Ankeny, Iowa 50023.
