Men’s basketball: Iowa defeats Ohio State, 72-62

IOWA CITY – Iowa defeated Ohio State Saturday in Iowa City in a Big Ten Conference home game.

Iowa trailed, 26-24 after a low-scoring first half.

Jordan Bohannon became the 48th Iowa player to score 1,000 career points with a free throw with 1:19 remaining in the second half. Bohannon also dished out a game-best eight assists, which matched a season high for the junior.

Iowa has won eight of its last nine games. After starting 0-3 in the Big Ten, the Hawkeyes have won their last three conference games (3-3).

The Iowa-Ohio State all-time series is now even, 80-80, after today’s Iowa victory.

The 62 points allowed by Iowa is a season best in conference play.

Iowa’s 11 steals in today’s win equal a season high (Pitt).

Tyler Cook finished the game with 15 points and eight rebounds, marking the tenth straight games totaling 15+ points and 5+ rebounds. Cook is the first Hawkeye to accomplish the feat since James Winters the first ten games of the 1993-94 season.

Twenty-five of last 37 meetings between Iowa and Ohio State have been decided by 10 points or fewer.

Iowa returns to action on Wednesday at Penn State. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. (CT) at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania.
