Man who allegedly fled from cops after swallowing meth to be arraigned Monday in Worth county

Worth county courthouse
NORTHWOOD – A man on probation for felony theft will be arraigned Monday after police say he swallowed half a gram of meth as cops chased him through Worth county earlier this month.

On August 1, 2018 at approximately 1:39 AM, a Deputy with the Worth County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a Blue 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee for crossing the center line as well as driving on the shoulder and the Deputy observed corn stalks dragging from the jeep. The sheriff’s office says Blake Peterson was identified as the driver of the vehicle and Cody Peterson was identified as a passenger.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the vehicle had driven through a nearby cornfield causing quite a bit of damage to the crop. Blake Peterson later admitted to swallowing 1⁄2 of a gram of methamphetamine prior to being stopped. Cody Peterson was later found to be in possession of methamphetamine as well as several items of drug paraphernalia. In addition to the narcotics; brass knuckles found on Cody Peterson’s person, a wooden club located between the driver’s seat and door, a crow bar, several flashlights, and miscellaneous tools were recovered from the vehicle as well.

As a result of this stop and investigation:

Cody Peterson was taken into custody and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Blake Peterson was taken into custody and charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Criminal Mischief, Reckless Driving, No Insurance, and Driving on the Wrong Side of a Two Lane Highway.

The Worth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa Department of Transportation, Northwood Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Mason City Fire and Ambulance, and Dick’s Towing.

Blake Peterson will be arraigned on this case Monday in Northwood. Records show he remains on probation for a guilty plea to second-degree theft back in October of 2017 in Worth county. A probation violation report has been issued; he had been given a suspended 5-year prison sentence.
