CHARLES CITY, IA – The Floyd County Board of Supervisors tackled a wide-ranging agenda during their meeting on April 28, 2026, focusing on infrastructure safety, county staffing needs, and long-term financial planning.

In a move to prioritize road safety, the Board approved a reduction in weight limits for Bridge No. 153660. Following inspections that revealed structural deterioration, the one-lane structure will now feature multiple weight limit postings of 10 and 15 tons. This decision is part of an ongoing effort to manage the county’s aging infrastructure while maintaining public safety.

Public Safety and Staffing Updates

Staffing was a major topic of discussion as Emergency Management Coordinator Jason Webster and Dispatch Supervisor John Gohr addressed the Board. Following the resignation of a part-time employee and with two veteran dispatchers eyeing retirement within the next year, the Board moved forward with a recommendation to hire a full-time dispatcher. Supervisor Gohr confirmed that sufficient funds are available in the current budget to support the new full-time role.

The Board also discussed a potential role transition for Gohr, moving from a salaried supervisor to a lead hourly position starting July 1. In other personnel matters, pay increases were noted for Jailer Alyssa Collins and Auditor’s Clerk Ann Wagner, while Carter Burkhardt and Clay Price were welcomed as new Conservation Aides.

Infrastructure and Drainage Maintenance

Secondary Roads and drainage issues also saw significant updates. A public hearing has been set for May 19 at 9:15 a.m. regarding the proposed vacation of Timber Avenue south of 130th Street. Meanwhile, repairs to Drainage District #9 have been delayed due to excess water, but the Board has identified Zimmerman’s Digging and Demolition to complete the work once conditions improve.

Additionally, the Board approved funding agreements for several federal RAISE grant projects and reviewed progress on a bridge project south of Rudd, which is slated to begin in May.

Financial and Administrative Decisions

The county solidified its auditing services for the coming years, accepting a multi-year bid from Gardiner & Company. The contract covers auditing through FY28, with costs starting at $47,650 for FY26 and scaling to $55,575 by 2028.

The Board also approved a pre-release software agreement with ReGov Solutions, LLC, an Iowa-based company developing specialized software for county governments. Before adjourning, the Supervisors officially recognized Veterans Affairs Director Todd Schriever for his exceptional service to local veterans and their families.
