KOSSUTH COUNTY — A Northern Iowa woman has died following a two-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck in rural Kossuth County Monday morning. According to reports from the Iowa State Patrol, emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of 90th Avenue and 210th Street at approximately 10:30 a.m. on April 27, 2026.
A preliminary investigation into the crash determined that a 2014 Peterbilt 389 semi-truck, operated by 40-year-old Teddy Kutsch of Brule, Nebraska, was traveling southbound on 90th Avenue. Authorities state the semi-truck failed to stop at the intersection and collided with a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox that was traveling eastbound on 210th Street. The Equinox was driven by 47-year-old Carolee Wise of Emmetsburg.
The driver of the Equinox, an Iowa woman, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle, 76-year-old Bernadette Wise of Emmetsburg, sustained injuries and was transported to the Kossuth Regional Health Center by Algona EMS. State troopers noted that both women were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the impact.
Kutsch, the driver of the semi-truck, was also injured in the collision and transported to the Kossuth Regional Health Center for medical treatment. Investigators noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt during the incident. The semi-truck involved is owned by Paullina-based Hurtig Trucking LLC.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Algona Police and Fire departments, Algona EMS, the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Kossuth County EMA, Mitch’s Towing, and Oakcrest Funeral Home. The fatal accident remains under investigation by state authorities.
