MASON CITY – A convicted bank robber is behind bars after taking possession of checks from a local business and trying to cash them, police say.
On January 18, 2018, Mason City police took a report of a potential forgery from a local business. NIT is told this is a photography business that was victimized and the checks hadn’t been in use for nearly 4 years. The owner had been contacted by a local bank after Buttshaw had brought in a check on his business account. The bank suspected that the check may not have been written by the owner. An investigation was completed and Buttshaw was charged with felony forgery. She was arrested on a warrant and is currently in custody.
Emily Buttshaw (Francis) was an accomplice in the February 3rd, 2012 robbery of the 1st Citizens Bank in downtown Mason City. Police have said that just a few minutes before the bank was robbed, a “vague” bomb threat was called into Newman School, potentially diverting police from the bank location. She served only about a year in jail for that crime and has been arrested numerous times for new crimes since her release from prison.
