ESTHERVILLE, IOWA – A woman who moved out of state has been sent to federal prison for embezzling nearly $300,000 from a Northern Iowa bank.
Cindy Harris, age 51, currently from Missoula, Montana, received a 6-month prison term after a June 22, 2017, guilty plea to one count of bank theft, embezzlement and misapplication of funds.
At the guilty plea, Harris admitted that from about 2002 and continuing through about July 2013, when she was an employee of the Emmet County State Bank, she willfully embezzled approximately $299,327.50, in cash and coin from the bank vault without the permission of the bank and with the intent to defraud the bank.
Harris was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand. Harris was sentenced to three months in federal prison, to be followed by three months of electronically monitored home confinement. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and she was ordered to make restitution in the amount of, $299,327. Harris must also serve a four-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
She was neighbors with the Clintons in Arkansas – repay $300,000 bucks – right! and the DNC is not corrupt.
for 11 years she was able to take money???? bank sure doesn’t have any checks and balances does it. I wouldn’t keep my money there with such sloopy accountability
This only happened because of lousy management on the bank’s part. Yes, the woman was a crook, but poor control of the vault allowed her to get by with it. When I was the operations officer in a bank, the same person was never allowed to count the vault two days in a row.
I suppose if all is paid back at her age all should be well. Men caught in a similar situation are held to a higher standard. It seems for the last decade many women in Iowa have been caught stealing money from their employers and the motivation is all the same…shopping, vacations, etc. Odds are one and seven they will get caught. When exposed to the real temptations of the business world the results are always the same. Greed.
When a person gets use to lying they undermine the cornerstone of ethics right off the bat. Maybe she should go into politics. lol
Embezzlers are in the hands of politicians for big corporations. States involved in gambling, slinging dope, etc. are modern racketeers. Jails for profit are the norm. Oh, how the tables have turned as the ‘good guys’ are now the bad guys. Good luck on that one.
