Food bank asks for donations of excess garden produce

MASON CITY – Did you grow too many tomatoes in your garden? The local food bank is hoping you will donate them to help feed the hungry.

Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank is hoping that gardeners will donate their excess garden produce to the food bank. Most of the time, the food bank receives canned goods and other non-perishable items. These items are greatly appreciated, but do not offer as much nutrition as fresh vegetables. Receiving fresh produce donations will help them offer more nutritious options to the children and families they serve.

Produce and food donations can be delivered to the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank from 9-11 Monday through Friday morning. They are located at 122 South Adams(one block west of Southbridge Mall) in downtown Mason City. Anyone with questions can call 424-3073 or go to their Facebook page.
