MASON CITY – Active Kids Gymnastics recently won the 1st place overall award in Silver Division at the 2017 Winter Wonderland Gymnastics Completion in Coralville, Iowa. Active Kids entered two teams, Bronze and Silver, both competing in the Xcel division. Gymnastics divisions are divided by skill level of the participants, and then by age groupings. Xcel is one of two types of gymnastics divisions sanctioned by USA Gymnastics which is the sports governing body for the sport of gymnastics in the United States.
Local participating gymnasts competing in the Bronze Division were Raya Bennett, Gabrielle Sifuentes, Lila Sheenhan, Hayden Colby, Harley Trettin, Riley Burkholder-Hosch, and Ellie Harms. Gymnasts in the Silver Division included Mia Anderson, Rylea Groves, McKinnley Hoffman, Ella Ariston, and Amanda Blanchard.
Both teams scored exceptionally well. Bronze Awards in individual age categories included Ellie Harms who placed 1st in beam, 2nd in floor routine. Harley Trettin placed 4th in floor. Lila Sheenhan received 3rd in uneven bars, 2nd in beam, and 3rd in all-around. Raya Bennett recorded 1st place in vault.
Silver Awards won by Mia Anderson included 3rd in vault, 1st in beam, 4th in floor, and 3rd in all around. Rylea Groves received 1st in vault, 2nd in uneven bars, 2nd in beam, 4th in floor, and 1st in all around. McKinnley Hoffman received 4th in vault, 1st in uneven bars, 1st in beam, and 2nd in all around. Ella Ariston received 1st in floor. Amanda Blanchard received 2nd in vault and 4th in uneven bars. The Silver Team won 1st place overall for the highest cumulative scores of all the competitors.
The teams are coached by Doug Hagenow who said, “This win was a real team effort. All our gymnasts worked very hard and all contributed to this significant win. They and their families can take great pride in what has been accomplished.”
