NIACC track teams both ranked in top 25

MASON CITY – The NIACC women’s track and field team is ranked 21st and the NIACC men are 22nd in the second set of NJCAA Division I rankings released by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association on Wednesday.

In the women’s rankings, Iowa Central is ranked No. 1, Iowa Western is ranked fourth and Indian Hills is ranked No. 24.

The Lady Trojans were 18th in the initial set of rankings.

For the NIACC women, freshman Cailey Weaver is ranked fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:19.54. Weaver is 18th in the 600 (1:40.53).

Freshman Patricia Sahr is 15th in the high jump (5 feet, 2 1/2 inches) and the Lady Trojans’ distance medley relay team has the seventh fastest time so far this season (13:59.27).

In the men’s rankings, Iowa Central is Iowa Central is ranked No. 1 and Iowa Western is seventh.

The NIACC men were ranked 19th in the first set of rankings.

For the NIACC men, sophomore Wal Khat is ranked second in the 800 (1:54.46), 10th in the mile (4:24.23) and 13th in the 600 (1:21.32).

Also for the Trojans, freshman Blake Keller ranks 22nd in the 3,000 (9:13.80).

The NIACC men’s and women’s track and field teams return to action Saturday at the Grinnell College Invitational.
