Forest City man wanted for felony crimes in Mason City busted on warrant

MASON CITY – A wanted Forest City man earlier busted for thieving a bike from the library is now accused of felony theft and burglary crimes in Mason City and was caught this weekend on an arrest warrant.

Mason City police NIT that on or about Nov 14, 2016, 21-year-old Cole Thomas Seglem is accused of being involved in the theft of a trailer from Parkridge Drive in Mason City. The trailer contained landscaping tools and power equipment valued at approximately $4,200. Further investigation led police to suspect that Seglem and Eric Kruse were involved in a burglary to a farm in the 1900 block of North Eisenhower around January 1, 2017. The North Eisenhower property owner reported the burglary on Jan 3, 2017. Because the whereabouts of Seglem and Kruse were unknown between November of 2016 to early January of this year, arrest warrants were sough and obtained for Seglem on charges of felony second-degree theft and felon third-degree burglary.

A Cerro Gordo county deputy located Seglem on Jan 21, 2017 in Ventura and arrested him on the warrants.

Seglem and another man were arrested Monday, October 4, 2016 at around 10:00 AM for stealing a bicycle at the Mason City Public Library. Officers were notified that someone was tampering with a bike in the parking lot and found both men in the area. Seglem was riding the stolen bike and Joseph Dean Andersen, age 28 of Mason City, assisted Seglem in taking the bike.

Seglem was charged with theft in 4th Degree, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. He posted $1,000 cash bond in October and entered a not-guilty plea in November. He awaits a jury trial in February.
