NEWTON, IOWA – A convicted sex abuser died in a prison recreation yard.
Dennis Wayne Brown, an inmate assigned to the Newton Correctional Facility, was discovered unresponsive in the recreation yard at 6:12 P.M. on June 2, 2016. Security and Medical Staff responded and emergency medical procedures were immediately implemented including CPR and AED. Ambulance Service was requested and Brown was transported to the Newton Skiff Medical Center where Brown was pronounced deceased.
The cause of death is believed to be Coronary Artery Disease, however an autopsy, including toxicology tests, has been ordered.
Brown was 51 years old and serving a twenty year sentence from Story County for two counts of Sex Abuse Third Degree. This sentence began on July 6, 2009.
