Party lands Charles City men in jail

CHARLES CITY – Booze and loud music at a low-income housing apartment complex landed two Charles City men in jail.

A report of loud music was called in to Charles City police after midnight on May 7. Responding to the Morningside Apartments at the 2100 block of Clarkview Drive, officers discovered two men, 27-year-old Jarmel Toney and 24-year-old Eric Sanders. After an investigation, both men were arrested for public intoxication and taken to jail.

Shortly thereafter, Toney pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay $147.75 in fines and court costs.

Sanders, however, isn’t going as quietly.

Apparently, Sanders recently moved to Charles City from Fort Dodge. Currently, Sanders is also facing additional charges of trespassing, public intoxication and interference with official acts, also brought by Charles City police. These charges are a result of police doing business checks after 1:30 AM on March 20, 2016, in the 800 block of North Main Street. Sanders has pleaded not guilty to all charges from both incidents and awaits a June 10 non-jury trial.

Sanders has been appointed a lawyer at the state’s expense.
