MCPD: Pork plant protest ribbons and flyers on poles are illegal

MASON CITY – Mason City police are reminding citizens that flyers and other objects people are attaching to utility and lights poles are illegal.

As a “red ribbon campaign” has sprouted up in town in recent days in protest to a possible pork processing plant, police have taken notice.

“We have seen fliers posted around Mason City regarding a current “hot topic” posted and/or taped to utility and lights poles,” police said Wednesday. “We want to remind everyone that it may be a violation of city ordinance to post or tape flyers of any kind on city property or utility poles, as well as private property, absent the owners permission.”

Police conceded that “everyone has their right to express their opinion about things happening in our community,” but pointed to city code as a reminder (city code section is 8-3-9).

“Express your opinion but respect the property rights of others,” an officer said via social media.

Photos submitted to NIT.  Location is East State Street, near the 500 block.

now I understand y I saw a city worker removing rummage sale signs off stop sign post

I’m all over Mason City every day,and I got to say I haven’t seen many red ribbons. It seems it just in some of the same areas and very heavy. And that is a sign to me is a very few people are the ones putting these up.Looks like they can tie a knot. What small minds you have.Red Ribbon people pool your ideas of future employers you have in your minds that should move here then.Or shut up and take your seat.Im waiting for your suggestions, just can’t wait to see what you come up with. Some people will always RAIL against everything and everyone.I know because I’ve lived he for 40 years and a small part of the population do nothing but bitch.

Sounds like you are the one “bitching” there, bucko.

You are the type of suck-up that would have been a British sympathizer in 1776.
You are the sort that would have turned in the Boston Tea Party guys.
All hail King George, eh?
You are a good little sheep.

Remember years ago all the yellow ribbons tied around everything. No one has a problem with those.

Oh poop!

How many people missed work because at Council Meeting until 2 am?Oh! that’s right most are retired or not working anyways.

Mason City has to whine about SOMETHING!Do want jobs, don’t want jobs.Alot of people EAT! I quess we better build factories on the MOON then.It must be we like people that are unemployed or just don’t want to work.People have better ideas of employers to come here then let’s here it.Instead of grouping against everything that might bring this community back to what it once was.We complained about Cement dust, see where that got us.No jobs, keep whining and the jobs keep going down I -35. In the 70’s we had 35,000 plus people living here, why JOBS Deckers,Cement Plant,Sugerbeet, (not just warehouse). And huge list of employers here have left.Ampi,Tonka Coolers,Rockwell Int.Alexander batteries,Wellborn,Alpana,Midwest Plastic,Scheindler Metal,Gambles warehouse,Blue Ribbon meat packing,Toro was at Kraft location for while list goes on and on why you ask.Just look at us,we can’t agree on nothing and the jobs don’t take the exit ramp on I-35.Lets hear some ideas on how we can make this work for US.

AMEN!!

So let’s create some jobs only a bunch of foriegners will do! They are going to bring with them their low quality lifestyle. Drugs and crime are undoubtedly tied to them as well. When was the last time you heard somebody say they were going to take a fun trip to Ft. Dodge or Marshalltown? They don’t, and son enough Mason City will be just as rundown and ghetto. If you want that in your town, you deserve what is coming.

It’s still not illegal to tie red ribbons to things on your property. Mail boxes, trees, car antennas, or flag poles.

Remember opinions do not matter to “order followers”, just like Hitler, had many “order followers” to implement his psychopathic deeds, please watch this video showing the “impact” the animal factories have done to the State of North Carolina, https://youtu.be/A6QTfFUxSR8.

It is also illegal to run into parks cars, that doesn’t seem to matter to the mc police, Steve klemas totaled three and walked away with nothing!

It has always been that way. If you put up a garage sale sign you are required to take it down at the end of the day. They cut a little slack on it, but the city should not have to clean up after someone. They could be arrested for littering and be fined just like any other law breakers.

BS on your comment, it is just never enforced.
The code is specific & states nothing about “allowed” for any specific time-frame.

8-3-9: DISTRIBUTION OF BILLS
It shall be unlawful for any person to post or attach, paint, print or write any placard, notice, poster, bill, advertisement, announcement, picture or sign on any pole, post, fence, hydrant, bridge, wall, building, window, structure, sidewalk, tree or any public property.

http://www.sterlingcodifiers.com/codebook/index.php?book_id=382

the zoning ordinance also prohibits signs in the right-of-way.

Total BS they have never enforced this and there is always rummage sales signs left up and no one has been written a ticket on this. A few people are upset because the masses do not support this plant and they are trying to stop people from showing their discuss with it.

They better remember and enforce this so called law when it comes to crap they want also. No more rummage sales signs, no more signs referring to things happening in the park. Anyone crying about enforcing this now is just upset because the majority of people don’t want this plant and know its not a good idea.

While I do not think that this “red ribbon” idea is a good one, if the police are going to enforce this code, they had better enforce it for every garage & yard sale sign that are put up and for any other of the various signs/balloons/ribbons that are posted on public property.
