NASHUA, IOWA – Two North Iowa men were hurt when a semi truck driver failed to yield to a train at a crossing in Nashua.
According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 2007 Freightliner semi truck was traveling west on Woodbridge Street as a Canadian National trip was traveling north on the tracks. The driver of the semi, 40-year-old Jeremy Janssen of Nashua, failed to yield to the train and tried to cross the tracks. The train struck the trailer. The semi truck and trailer came to rest in the travel portion of Jay Street and Woodbridge Street. The train consisted of three locomotives and approximately 98 cars and stopped about a quarter-mile north.
There were no serious injuries, but two men were taken to area hospitals. Janssen was taken by Chickasaw ambulance to a Waverly hospital. Donald Ahlhelm, age 56 of Osage, who was on the train, was injured. He was taken by Chickasaw ambulance to Floyd County Memorial Hospital.
