HUDSON – An Iowa volunteer fireman lost his life “doing what he loved most, riding his Harley” in a recent tragic accident in Waterloo.
The Hudson, Iowa volunteer fire department said 26-year-old Riley Gilbert was killed in a motorcycle accident on the night of April 16, 2024, in Waterloo. Riding in wet and slippery conditions contributed to a spin-out of the motorcycle, throwing Gilbert from the bike.
“He is one of our newer members of the department but was eager and willing to learn the job and respond to calls,” The department said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gilbert/Fogt family.”
An obituary says “Riley had a passion for riding his Harley, being a member of the Hudson Fire Dept. and the Hudson Amvets Riders Post 82. He also enjoyed his guns and fishing.”
