SWALEDALE — A formerly abandoned property will become the site of new business construction under a plan recently approved by the Swaledale City Council.
The Council approved a building permit and tax incentive plan for Rusty and Karen Seidel, who plan to build a furniture restoration and seasonal produce business at 300 Main Street in Swaledale.
The property, once home to the Swaledale Catholic Church, had become run down and abandoned by a subsequent owner. The City Council recently took action to clean the property up and prepare it for development.
Swaledale Mayor John Drury, who has urged the Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors to allocate tax revenues to help towns clean up abandoned properties, hailed the City Council’s action and welcomed the Seidels to the community.
“This is a great example of why maintaining the real estate stock of our communities makes good sense for the regional economy as well as for the health and quality of life of county residents,” said Drury.
