Charles City man sent to prison for indecent contact with child

CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man has been sent to prison following a guilty plea to a charge of indecent contact with a child.

Jeff A. DeVries, age 51, was charged by Floyd county prosecutors with five counts of sexual abuse in the second degree and five counts of indecent contact with a child. The crimes allegedly took place beginning in June of 2013, with the latest incident as late as August 1, 2014 against a female victim under the age of 12 while under the care of DeVries.

In April, Devries agreed to plead guilty to the aggravated misdemeanor count of indecent contact with a child. However, he later tried to withdraw that plea, court records show. After security levels were raised in the courtroom for Monday’s sentencing hearing, Devries was sentenced to 2 years in prison for his crime. He will also be placed on the state’s sex offender registry.  He remains in the Floyd county jail as he awaits transport to prison.
