MASON CITY – Volunteers are being sought to help clean up the Shell Rock River in Cerro Gordo county.

Volunteers will participate in a river cleanup on the Shell Rock River from Wilkinson Pioneer Park to the Preserve Campground. Event volunteers will use canoes or kayaks and float along the river picking up any garbage that they find.  Organizers say you may use your own equipment or they will have canoes available for those that need one. Volunteers will be given safety gloves and bags for garbage disposal but are asked to bring their own lunch and drinks.

Those interested in participating should contact the Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board office at 641-423-5309 to register, no later than Wednesday, May 27th, to help with this event.

The Shell Rock River begins at Albert Lea Lake in Freeborn County in south-central Minnesota, a few miles from the Iowa border. It flows 113 miles into Iowa, where it enters the Cedar River.
