CHARLES CITY – Caring Connections-Mentor a Child, a non-profit community based youth mentoring program serving Floyd County, will be hosting the 3rd Annual Full Moon 5k Run/Walk on Friday, May 1st at 8:00 pm. This is a fundraising event for the youth serving program. “All proceeds from this event will directly benefit the Caring Connections mentoring program but more importantly benefit the youth in Floyd County,” states Program Coordinator, Meagan Wrecsics.
The 5k will begin at the Wildwood Golf Course in Charles City, IA, head north on the Charley Western Bike Trail, cross Gilbert Street and run along-side the Cedar River, crossing the popular Suspension Bridge as well as the walking bridge by the Charles City Library before circling around and concluding back at the Wildwood Golf Course. As the race begins in the evening hours, parts of the path will be lit with candle markers as well as by the light of the Full Moon. Participants are encouraged to bring their own glow gear to enhance the fun of the race.
Last year’s event brought a wide variety of nearly 300 participants from several communities in Iowa and Minnesota, and runners of all ages from elementary school to retirement. The Full Moon 5k is fun for families to participate in together, but also for the serious, competitive racer. Back by popular demand this year is True Time Racing from Des Moines. They will be timing the race using electronic chip timers to provide the most accurate results. Top runners in various age categories will receive medals at this event.
The registration fee for the event is $25 per person which includes one Dri-fit T-shirt, glow gear, swag bag, and refreshments after the race.
