I followed a McKiness dump truck from the north end of town out to the Madison School demolition site today. Once I got out there, they were filling the trucks full of debris, and away the next one went, heading north back to the dump site at the old Decker meat packing plant area. While I was at the Madison School demo site, the dust and debris was blowing everywhere. It was also blowing right out of the back of the dump trucks and off the bricks where the school stood. I mean lots of this stuff, it was thick in the air and even made it hard to breath for a moment. Seemed to be a real safety concern. I shot video of it. Is anyone overseeing this situation? Is there asbestos out there? Is this material being safely disposed of? Who is ensuring this is a safe process?
I am just wondering if anyone is paying attention to this situation and if there is a danger to the community.

NIT is told that it used to be that when old buildings were torn down in MC (examples: Monroe School and Park 70 Theatre) the debris was hosed down to keep the dust under control. The debris and dust that were (are) blowing from the Madison School zone is full of silver particles; it is thick and coats the throat immediately. Lots of homes surround the site. It is particularly disturbing that none of these officials seem to know what is going on there.
Great questions. It will be interesting to see if they answer you. If they are not doing their jobs they will just ignore you. I am willing to bet there is no one from the city supervising this project. There is some nasty materials in those old buildings that need to be handled properly.
