Brenda Leah Askildson, age 53, was arrested on April 10 at about 1 PM after she was caught stealing at Wal-Mart in Mason City. She was charged with enhanced third degree theft due to her criminal past. She was jailed and soon released.

Askildson was then arrested on the evening of April 12 when a caller reported a possibility intoxicated female in Mason City. Officers arrested Askildsen on a charge of public intoxication and she was taken to the county jail where she remained Sunday night.

Askildson was placed on 5 years of probation last year after pleading guilty to felony delivery of methamphetamine. She was supposed to be sent to the Beje Clark halfway house for 999 days or until maximum benefit. She shows a different address in Mason City. She served time in the Mount Pleasant prison for women for felony forgery in 2013 but was released after a short stay. She was accused of violating her parole terms shortly after her release from prison but has not been returned there, yet.

John, you are correct, many have tried. She meets one guideline but not the next. You’re right she is causing nothing but trouble for all involved and I honestly don’t think she understands that. To her it’s survival. Because of her diminished mental capacity she is an easy target for the scum of the earth that use and abuse her. I personally think she needs to be institutionalized where she is feed, clothed, bathed, taught, safe, for many years and then see if she can function on the…

I know Brenda, she is a cousin. She is mentally disabled, and grew up in a abuse home environment. She needs therapy, counseling, treatment, not jail. I don’t know if she’s ever know peace and safety her whole life. It’s sad.

That pretty much sums it up ginger, someone in you family needs to step up and get her some help. I understand where you are coming from but the fact is she is costing a lot of people and businesses a lot of money in costs. Putting people in prison costs all of us a lot of money.
