LOS ANGELES — In 2011, Arnold Schwarzenegger blew up his marriage to Maria Shriver when he admitted fathering a child with their housekeeper. Now he’s admitting to the rest of the world how he got busted.
Schwarzenegger, it seems, agreed to go to couples counseling, he writes in an upcoming tell-all autobiography, a copy of which was obtained by the New York Daily News. It was a day after he was out as California’s governor in January 2011, and he thought the point was to navigate their transition from public to private life.
Which it was, in a way. Except it was in a way that involved immediate groveling and a big mea culpa.
“The minute we sat down, the therapist turned to me and said, ‘Maria wanted to come here today and to ask about a child — whether you fathered a child with your housekeeper Mildred (Baena),’” Schwarzenegger says in “Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story,” according to the Daily News.
He said, “It’s true,” then told Shriver she was a “perfect wife” who still turned him on.
The nitty-gritty: He and Baena had sex in 1996 in a guest house at his and Shriver’s mansion while the wife and kids were away on vacation and he was stuck in town to work on a movie, he writes.
Schwarzenegger reportedly admitted he had messed up and began groveling — to no avail. Shriver filed for divorce on July 1, 2011, after the couple split that May, when the 15-year-old love-child revelation went public.
