MASON CITY – A generous donation of over $50,000 has been made by a Mason City woman to the NIACC Foundation.
Longtime Mason City community member, Judy Nielsen has made a $52,500 gift to the NIACC Foundation to establish the Darrell V. and Judy K. Nielsen Agricultural Scholarship in memory of her late husband Darrell. This scholarship will assist full-time NIACC students who major in an agriculture related program.
“Darrell worked on his parent’s farm during his youth, and then as an engineer for KGLO television for seventeen years, while farming part-time and raising a family. He worked tirelessly until he reached his goal of farming full-time for almost forty years. He was highly regarded in our community, serving on many boards and committees” said Judy Nielsen. “I am so happy to be able to create this permanent legacy to support education, our community and our future by assisting students and their endeavors.” Nielsen continued.
“The gift of this endowed scholarship in memory of Darrell Nielsen is a wonderful way to honor his life-long love of farming and assist students by making their financial obligation a bit lighter. Two $1,250 scholarships will be awarded each year beginning in the fall of 2015,” said Andrea Mujica, NIACC Scholarship Coordinator.
