MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA – This Iowa man is accused of setting fires at a Super 8 hotel and a house and now faces two felony charges of arson.
On October 24th, 2024, the Marshalltown Police Department and the Marshalltown Fire Department started an investigation into a suspicious fire at the Super 8 (3315 S Center St) in Marshalltown. A suspect was identified in that fire and the investigation continued.
Then, on February 26th of this year, The Marshalltown Police Department and the Marshalltown Fire Department responded to another suspicious fire at 402 Union Street in Marshalltown. The suspect identified in the Super 8 fire was also identified as the suspect in the Union Street fire.
On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Anthony Ivan Garcia, 22, of Marshalltown, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of Arson 1st Degree, a Class “B” Felony.
