MC sex offender released from jail, awaits trial

MASON CITY – A sex offender who calls Mason City home and is accused of violating the Iowa sex offender registry for a second time this year has been released from jail and awaits a December trial date.

Anthony Junnell Rolfes, age 26, turned himself in to the Cerro Gordo County Jail on September 19, wanted on a charge of second offense violation of sex offender registration. Law enforcement lists his home address as 407 South Tennessee Avenue apartment 2 in Mason City. That apartment house is owned by American Realty.

Rolfes posted $500 bond on October 7, and pled not guilty a week later, when a jury trial date of January 6 was set by a judge.

Rolfes pled guilty on May 12, 2014 to first offense violation of the Iowa sex offender registry. Rolfes was sentenced to one year in jail (all but 14 days suspended), placed on two years probation, and ordered to pay $484 in court costs. He never made a payment on that so far, records show.

Rolfes was also found guilty of violating the terms of his parole on September 24, but no punishment was handed down, and his parole was reinstated by judge James Twedt.  Rolfes was ordered to pay $23.10 in court costs, which is now overdue, since she never made a payment, records show.

Rolfes was convicted in Mitchell county in 2011 on a charge of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.  The charge was brought by Osage police. The victim was a female, age 13 or younger and Rolfes was 23 at the time.  Rolfes got probation and a deferred judgement.
