OELWEIN – A man accused of getting behind the wheel while intoxicated led police on a dangerous pursuit before he was stopped.
On September 7, 2014, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a vehicle driving erratically, and causing danger to other drivers. Once Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies located the vehicle, the driver refused to stop and led them on a vehicle pursuit for several miles. The vehicle was apprehended with the assistance of the Oelwein Police Department.
The driver was identified as Michael Lee Brunson, age 57, of Oelwein. Brunson was charged with operating while under the influence 1st Offence (Serious misdemeanor), eluding (Serious misdemeanor), open container (Simple misdemeanor); failure to obey stop sign, failure to have valid license, failure to prove security against liability, and operating without registration.
Brunson was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he was later released pending a hearing.
