DES MOINES – In a festive and vocal demonstration of civic engagement, constituents of Iowa’s 3rd District gathered outside Congressman Zach Nunn’s Des Moines office with cheeky Christmas carols to mark the six-year anniversary of the House of Representatives passing the “GOP Tax Scam” as they call it.
The carolers, organized by a political group, Fairness for Iowa, used the occasion to call on Representative Nunn to oppose further corporate handouts and to advocate for policies that benefit all Americans.
The carolers were adorned in holiday attire and performed original Christmas carols crafted to draw attention to the anniversary and express their concerns about Nunn’s support for tax handouts to corporations and the ultra wealthy, like the TCJA Permanency Act, cutting billions of tax dollars for the wealthiest 1% of Americans. Among the festive tunes was the reimagined classic, “‘Twas the Tax Scam Anniversary.” The lively chorus aimed to send a clear message to Congressman Nunn and his staff, highlighting the need for fair economic policies that prioritize the needs of constituents over corporate interests.
This creative and festive demonstration is part of a broader effort by advocacy groups to raise awareness about the long-term effects of the GOP Tax Scam and to encourage elected officials to prioritize policies that benefit the majority of Americans.
Fairness for Iowa, which provided the video, is a grassroots coalition working to uplift the stories of hard-working Iowans.
