Drury makes it official, will run as an Independent for County Supervisor

SWALEDALE – John Drury has announced that he will run as an Independent candidate for District 2 County Supervisor in the November election.

“In a recent letter to the editor, my wife wrote about how I never give up on issues affecting my constituents or the ideas that I believe in. I’m here to tell you that she’s right, and I see no reason to end my campaign for County Supervisor just because I was unsuccessful at the special county nominating convention. I’m still the best candidate for the position and the best candidate to win in November,” the Swaledale Mayor said.

“I’ve said from the day I announced that I would be proud to serve on the Board of Supervisors. But that has never been my sole reason for running—just to sit on the board or because I’m bored and have the time. I’m running because the district needs someone that understands local governments, listens to the people, and has the ability to solve problems. I was that candidate the day I announced and I’m that candidate tonight,” John told the delegates at the special nominating convention.

Mr. Drury is serving his 7th term as mayor of Swaledale and is running for Cerro Gordo County Supervisor in District 2.

His announcement comes in the wake of a Special Nominating Convention held last week which has fractured the Democratic Party. Doug Nelson of Clear Lake was chosen by 13 delegates over Drury, Adam Wedmore and Michael J Grandon. The Republican candidate is Casey M. Callanan.
