CHARLES CITY – A Charles City woman, allegedly distracted by kids in her car, struck a legally-parked car on a road, causing thousands of dollars in damages and a ticket for herself.

According to Charles City police, the incident took place on Wednesday morning, July 26, 2023.  At 10:10 AM that day, officers with the Charles City Police Department investigated a two-vehicle accident in the 700 block of 6th avenue.   A silver 2008 Ford Taurus driven by a Danae Gibson, age 32 of Charles City, was eastbound on 6th Avenue when she struck a gray 2008 Buick Lucerne owned by a 66-year-old Cindy Paul of Charles City.  The Buick was unattended and legally parked, facing east on 6th Avenue. Police say Gibson was distracted by children in the vehicle at the time.

Police say there were no injuries.

As a result of the collision, Gibson was cited for failure to maintain control, a simple misdemeanor, and faces of $200 in fines and court costs.

Police estimated the damage to Gibson’s vehicle at $4,000, and the estimated damage to Paul’s vehicle was $3,500.
