CRAWFORD COUNTY, IOWA – Arrests have been made in what is now being ruled a double homicide that took place at 1872 Milford Road, Deloit, IA, on Monday, March 10th, 2014.
Autopsies were conducted on both victims by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner. Identification has been made on 80 year-old Marvin Huesling of Carroll County. The second victim is presumed to be Alice Huisenga, 81 year-old, also of Carroll County. Ms. Huisenga’s positive identification is pending DNA confirmation. The death of Mr. Huesling has been ruled a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds. The State Medical Examiner has ruled Ms. Huisenga’s manner of death a result of homicidal violence.
Earlier this morning, law enforcement authorities arrested 26 year-old Michael D. Schenk, 19 year-old Jayden R. Chapman, and 36 year-old Erika M. Haberberger-Dains, all of Denison. All three have been charged with two counts each of 1st degree Murder and one count each of 1st degree Arson. They are currently being held in Crawford County Jail and are awaiting their initial appearance.
This investigation was initiated by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office. Other agencies involved in this cooperative effort include the Denison Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol and their Area B tactical team, the Harlan Police Department, and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
