Volleyball: Iowa State Survives Texas Tech in Five Sets

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team was able to get two sets ahead of Texas Tech Wednesday night in Hilton Coliseum, but had to hang on to win in five sets 3-2 (25-20, 25-19, 26-28, 19-25, 15-12). The win improved Iowa State to 13-6 overall and 7-2 in the Big 12. The loss dropped TTU to 8-17 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

For a time, it looked like it was Texas Tech’s destiny to defeat the Cyclones as the Red Raiders pulled ahead 5-4 in the fifth set, earning all five points via errors by Iowa State. However, ISU was able to compile a 7-1 run on the back of the tough serving of Kristen Hahn and Jenelle Hudson to put Iowa State ahead for good. Though the Cyclones did not close the match out immediately, the Red Raiders got it back to a 13-11 ISU lead in the fifth set, it was enough to bring the Cyclones their third straight win.

Cyclone Match Ball Goes to Kristen Hahn. In the end, it was the senior All-American who helped bring home the Iowa State victory. Hahn stepped up in the fifth set when Iowa State needed to find ways to fight for the match. She posted eight of her match-high 28 digs in the final frame, recorded her first kill of the season when an overpass was not picked up by the Red Raiders and teamed with Jenelle Hudson to put together the 7-1 run to bring the Cyclones home safely.
