Paul Richard Groth, 87 years old, of St. Ansgar passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa.

A funeral service is planned for 11:00 am on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa, with Pastor Mark Squire officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the church. Lunch will be provided after the service.

Paul Groth, the son of Henry and Ida (Belz) Groth, was born on August 13,1938, in Mitchell County, Iowa. He was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Paul attended Spring Valley County School (Mitchell County) through 4th grade and graduated from St. Ansgar Community Schools in 1956.

Paul married Barbara Jean Novak on June 1, 1958. They were blessed with three children, Carrie, Lori, and Steven. He was a lifelong farmer on a farm northeast of St. Ansgar, and then they moved to town in November of 1999. However, he continued to farm with his son, Steven, into his 80s. He served on the Toeterville Coop Elevator board, the Immanuel Lutheran Church board, the Mitchell County Economic Development Corporation board, and the St. Ansgar City Council.

Paul, with his wife, enjoyed attending antique shows to purchase different kinds of antiques and to collect local memorabilia. During his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and canning and sharing his extra garden produce with the community.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara, his children Carrie (Roger) Mayer, daughters Kelly (Dallas) Kuper, Angela (Andrew) Chisholm, and Jessica (Jared) Koebrick; Lori (Kevin) Hackenmiller, daughters Kaitlin (Andrew) Buker, and Ellie (Ryan) Henderscheid; and Steven (Connie) Groth, daughters Lauren (Gary) Mitchell, Claire, and Hannah and 11 great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ida Groth, sisters Dorothy Sponheim and Arlene Groth, and brother Arnold Groth.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Paul to the St. Ansgar Rescue or the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

The family of Paul expresses their thanks to all the employees at the Good Samaritan Center for their wonderful care given to Paul during his stay at the home.
