Dawn E. Jurgensen, 58, of Evansdale and formerly of Sumner, died Sunday, April 12, 2026, at her home surrounded by loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 18, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Tracy Hinkel officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Friday, April 17th at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the Church on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
Dawn Elizabeth, daughter of Gary and Marlys (Reuter) Goodenbour was born July 28, 1967, in Waterloo, Iowa. She spent her early childhood in Waterloo, prior to the family moving to Tripoli and eventually settling in Sumner. Dawn graduated from Sumner High School in 1985. On May 23, 1998, she was united in marriage with Andy Jurgensen. Dawn’s nurturing personality was a perfect fit for her professional career where she worked at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner for thirty-six years, known to her work family and many friends as “Mama Dawn”. She was a long time faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Dawn enjoyed sewing, camping, painting rocks, rock hunting, bicycling, tending to her flowers in her garden but her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family and friends.
Dawn is survived by her husband, Andy of Evansdale; children, Sena (Cody Hoff) Westendorf of Raymond, Shawn Westendorf of Hazleton, Dan (Destiny Timberlake) Wehling of Hazleton, and Sarah (Kegan) Bakken of Waterloo; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Madalyn Wehling, Luna and Korah Bakken and Isla Westendorf; siblings, Allen (Nancy) Goodenbour of Sumner, Kristine (Curtis) Martin of Lake Delhi, and Kara (Doug) Weber of Raymond; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Yulan (Bruce) Blumhagen of Georgia, Cybèle (Jeffrey) Steen of Georgia, David Jurgensen of Waterloo and Anthony (Corrine) Jurgensen of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gary and Marlys Goodenbour; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Morié and Arnold Jurgensen; and beloved dogs.
