January 27, 1936 ~ April 11, 2026
Lois Josephine Thul was born on January 27, 1936, to Luther and Bernice (Ness) Holm, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Eagle Grove graduating with the “Class of 1954”.
In her year book was written “With a diamond on my left hand and joy in my heart from Eagle High I gladly depart” That was Lois’s sentiment when she graduated. She was eager to begin her adult life by marrying Keith Dean (formerly of Clarion). Since he was a member of the Air Force, they spent most of their married lives at assigned bases around the world. They had two children: Kent Dean (who proceeded her in death) and Kelly Dean of Eagle Grove. She was widowed at age 37. In 1974 she met Donald Thul at the Duncombe Coop. They married in 1975. Their son, Michael Thul was born in 1976. Lois was again widowed in 2009 when she was 73.
Lois was an active member of Eagle Grove Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Altar Society, hobby club, St. Helen’s Circle, the Red Hats Club, gardening club, Scout Leader and social cards groups. She participated in many other activities and volunteer work. She enjoyed gardening and working outside.
The focus and joys of life were her family and raising her 29 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She was blessed to be welcomed to the Thul family by Larry (Verla) Thul, Marlena (Joe) Fisher, Carol (Tom) Messerly and LuAnn (Tom) Gaillard, all surviving, she is also survived by her sister Linda (Rua) Petty.
Lois passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Crestview Nursing Home surrounded by family, at the age of 90 years. In addition to her husbands; Keith and Don and son Kent, she was proceeded in death by her twin brother Lennis Holm and Donald Thul Jr.
Easy to understand why she was eager to get out of high school and get started on this active life. She had a blessed and rewarding life and will be greatly missed.
A Rosary and Vigil service will be held at 3:00p.m., Tuesday April 14th, 2026 at Foust Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, April 14th, 2026, at Foust Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday April 15th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eagle Grove. A luncheon will be served following the service prior to burial. Burial will be at Washington Lutheran Cemetery, Duncombe, Iowa.
Memorials will be left to the discretion of the family.
