by Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz –

I am joining my fellow members of the National Association of Secretaries of State in declaring September as National Voter Registration Month to encourage all eligible Iowans to participate in the election process by registering to vote.

Voting is one of the greatest responsibilities that we have as Americans and the first step to voting is registering to vote. Most Iowans know that voting is a civic duty and we have a great reputation for participating in the political process. Our Iowa Caucuses hold first in the nation status and every four years, Iowans scrutinize a wide variety of political candidates that descend on every part of our state. Iowa consistently ranks among the top 10 states for voter turnout. In 2012, over 81% of active registered voters cast a ballot, which is well above the national average.

School and city elections will be taking place across Iowa over the next few months. These elections typically have lower turnout than general elections.

There’s no reason it should be that way. Registering to vote is easy. Simply download the State of Iowa Official Voter Registration Form from www.sos.iowa.gov and return it to your local county auditor’s office or visit your local county auditor’s office to fill out a paper copy.

The Iowa Secretary of State’s office also offers a comprehensive app called Iowa SOS available for both Android and Apple devices to ensure resources are at voter’s fingertips. From the Iowa SOS app, Iowans can do the following:

  • Check voter registration information
  • Fill out the State of Iowa Official Voter Registration Form
  • Find the correct polling place
  • Request an absentee ballot
  • Track an absentee ballot
  • Set email or calendar reminders for upcoming elections
  • Report voter fraud
  • Contact local County Auditors
  • Contact the Iowa Secretary of State’s office

Voter registration is easy and important. I hope all eligible Iowans register to vote this September so Iowa can continue to be a leader in our nation for participating in the political process.

Make sure that you and everyone u know is registered and gets out to vote. We will be stuck with that poor excuse as a Mayor, but, we can change the landscape on the Council….. He would have less leverage without his crony Dream Team..

Vote early– vote often..hahahahahaaa

It’s a shame there is no national computer app for voter registration that integrates with birth certificate, passport, and naturalization databases. Then there would be less voter fraud. Our country needs some kind of control over who votes, regardless of party.
