GARNER – Garner Lumber & Supply Co. recently received funding through the NIACOG revolving loan fund (RLF). The community of Garner lost its’ longtime, successful lumber yard in the fall of 2012 due to a fire. Adam and Denise Upmeyer plan to open a new lumber yard this summer. The Garner based business was awarded $35,000.
As a result of the NIACOG RLF funding, Garner Lumber & Supply Co. will purchase a delivery truck, trailer and a fork lift for the business. The company plans to add three full-time jobs within the next two years.
According to a published report, on Friday, June 28th, MaxYield Cooperative finalized the sale of Garner Lumber & Supply Co. to Adam & Denise Upmeyer. “This completes all closing activities required and fully transfers the ownership of the Garner lumber business from MaxYield to the Upmeyer’s” the report stated. “The Upmeyer’s plan to be open for business at their new location Monday morning, July 1, 2013.”
Five awards have been made from NIACOG’s loan pool of $460,000 established by a $400,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration and a $60,000 local match from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The NIACOG RLF was established to provide a public financing tool to enhance business assistance programs and services to businesses and communities in the NIACOG region.
