MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors met for their regular meeting Tuesday morning at the courthouse. Phil Dougherty was absent.
Due to a procedural error, the board had to re-vote on an ordinance allowing golf carts on some county roads at certain times. The measure passed.
The board heard a report from Josh Finley, County Weed Commissioner. Finley said that thistles are the most problematic weed in the county.
The board also heard a report from David Green, the North Iowa Events Center Manager. Green said the fairgrounds turned a small profit for the year and is working on several improvement projects. Green thanked the sponsors who he says helped make much of the progress possible. Green was asked if carnival rides might be at next year’s fair. He said that due to upfront costs sometimes of $20,000 or more, it is difficult to line up that kind of entertainment. He said this year’s fair took a $15,ooo loss.

You just have to ask the question: How do other county’s manage to run a successful fair that is a draw for people year after year? What are they doing different than Cerro Gordo?
Dennis and Burt are getting paid to do jobs on the Fairgrounds, and over the years Fred and others have been paid. Against the Law.
Other Boards follow the law and DONATE their time. These people do not think the Iowa Code pertains to them. Well they are wrong. It does, they need to go.
