RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – Two Chevy silverado pickup trucks collided at a remote Cerro Gordo county intersection Sunday morning, hurling both vehicles into a ditch and an Iowa woman into a Mason City hospital.

On August 13, 2023 at 9:59 AM, Cerro Gordo county deputies were dispatched to the intersection of 340th Street and Raven Ave. for a 2-vehicle accident involving personal injuries. The first vehicle, a 2015 Chevy Silverado was being driven southbound on Raven Ave. by Kathy Brau, age 60, of St. Olaf, Iowa. The second vehicle, a 1999 Chevy Silverado was being driven westbound on 340th Street by Scott Shafer, age 51, of Plymouth, Iowa. The sheriff’s office says Shafer failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with Brau at this intersection, putting both vehicles into the ditch.

As a result of the collision, Shafer was uninjured. Brau, however, was transported by Mason City Fire to North Iowa Mercy One Hospital with unknown injuries.

Shafer was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign and failing to maintain control of his vehicle.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Plymouth EMT’s and Mason City Fire Department.
