WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – NIACC’s men’s golf team earned their first win of the spring season by one stroke over Kirkwood at the Ellsworth Invitational at Brigg’s Woods Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Trojans score of 314 edged Kirkwood’s 315 and DMACC’s 318. There were eight teams at the tournament.
Individually, Dalton Olson (Fr., Mason City, IA) placed second at 75 while Adam Brinkman (So., Clear Lake, IA) placed third with a round of 76.
“This is a nice win for our team,” golf coach Chris Frenz said. “Adam and Dalton were outstanding today. When Adam gets it going he can really play and at one point he was three under on the back 9 today, which is pretty tough at Briggs.
“Dalton just does an outstanding job of never giving up, always working hard until the last hole.”
Brent Tarr (Fr., Clear Lake, IA) shot an 80 in the tournament, while Jacob Urdahl (Fr., Mason City, IA) and Brandon Wood (So., Rudd, IA) both carded 84s.
“When you win by one stroke, it shows how important each and every shot actually is,” Frenz said. “This is a good confidence builder for our team because these are all the teams we’ll see at the Regional Tournament in May.”
NIACC will play at Lake Panorama on Friday and Saturday in the AIB Spring Invitational.
